Our standard

This website is built to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, the standard the ADA Title II rule sets for state and local governments. We hold our own site to the standard we build for our clients.

We also checked the site against the criteria that WCAG 2.2 added at Levels A and AA. Keyboard focus is never hidden behind other content, buttons and links are large enough to tap, and help is in the same place on every page. The site has no dragging, sign-ins or multi-step forms, which the remaining new criteria cover.

How we checked it

  • Every page, including the example sites, was scanned with the axe-core accessibility engine in Chrome at desktop and phone widths, and in dark mode on the pages that offer it.
  • Every page was checked with the keyboard alone: each link and form field can be reached in a logical order, and each shows a visible focus outline.
  • Every page was checked at a width of 320 pixels, the equivalent of 400% zoom, for content that runs off the side. Wide tables scroll inside their own box instead.
  • Text contrast was measured in every color scheme the site uses.
  • The example report form was completed and sent using only the keyboard, and it will not send until its required questions are answered.
  • The example business directory was searched and filtered using only the keyboard, and it announces how many businesses it found.

Automated tools and keyboard checks do not catch everything, so we welcome reports from the people who use the site.

What this site does not use

No tracking cookies, no analytics scripts, no pop-ups and no autoplaying media. The Belltower Digital pages use no JavaScript.

The only script on the site filters the business directory on the Harrow Falls example site. It runs in your browser, so what you search for is never sent to us. Without the script, the full directory still shows.

The only form that sends anything is the example report form on the same site. Nothing typed into it leaves your browser. The one answer that does is the kind of problem you pick, which appears in the address of the confirmation page. We don’t save it.
